Assalamualaikum w.b.t and good afternoon to everyone. My name is Wan Nur Farahiyah Binti Wan Mohd Tarmizi. You can call me Farahiyah. I will be your tour guide and I will accompany all of you during your stay in Kelantan. It is my pleasure to be of your services. I hope all of you will enjoy my talk. I know as soon as your arrival in Malaysia, you have been exposed to the hot weather in Malaysia. It might be difficult for all of you. Some tips for you, to avoid dehydration occurred always bring along your own water supply for you. I am sure you will not disappointed after listening for my talk. Without any further delay, let me start
my talk to describe about diversity of culture in Kelantan. For your
information, Kelantan is a state which is located on the east coast of
Peninsular Malaysia. The population of resident in Kelantan is mostly Malays
and Kelantan is primarily a Malay
state, which has a population of about 1.6 million, and around 7% of the
population is of Thai, Indian and Chinese ancestry. The people of Kelantan have
carefully preserved their customs, traditions and craft skills over time. Renowned
for their warmth and hospitality, Kelantanese display an old world charm that
captivates visitors. It is however a strictly an Islamic state and visitor are
advise to dress conservatively to avoid offending the local sensitivities.
Kelantan is hailed as the cultural heaven in Malaysia. The culture is preserve
in many categories such as dialect, foods, traditional music and dances and
traditional games.
First of
all, Kelantan has a unique native dialect that can be hard to understand even though
for people who only knows the standard Malay language. For people who are
travelling to Kelantan for studying or business, they will master this
dialect for their own. So it was not really difficult for the beginners like
you right? Let me teach you some easy
words. For 50 cents, in Kelantan dialect is called samah. In Kelantan, they also called supit ghoghak which is use to put things to carry along. I think
you can guess rightly. Supit ghoghak
is a plastic bag. Okay, next if you want to comment about the drink or food
which is too sweet for you, you can say manis
lleting. You have to utter the letter L precisely as you imagine it has the
spelling is ll. I am sure the locals will amazed if you use this dialect during
your stay here.
Next, this is the best part for all of us. When talking
about food, Kelantan has its own traditional local foods which are significant
when you visit here. The foods are Budu, Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Berlauk,Serunding
and the one of the iconic dessert is Kuih Taik Itik. There are many more foods
to relate. Let me tell you a fact, the locals are really enjoying Nasi Kerabu
and Nasi Berlauk for breakfast as they used to eat heavy breakfast. Nasi Kerabu
is served in which blue-coloured rice and sometimes in
yellow-coloured rice. It is eaten with many dishes such as dried fish or fried
chicken, crackers, pickles and other salads. The blue color of the rice comes
from the petals of butterfly-pea flowers used in cooking it. The
yellow-coloured rice be cooked using turmeric. It is often eaten
with solok lada and is also eaten with fried keropok and also called fish crackers. Meanwhile,
Nasi Berlauk is a plain rice served with Gulai Ikan and more similar to
fish curry. The most iconic and popular condiment is come from Kelantan is
called Budu. Budu can be categorized as a sauce which is originated from the
mixture of anchovies and salt. This mixture was fermented for about 120 days to
140 days. As a result, the flavor and aroma is gain nicely. Not only locals
love this, a lot of tourists also enjoy it.

Later on, Kelantan
is the birthplace of many traditional arts in Malaysia. Kelantan has the traditional music which
is gained by the traditional instrument by the traditional drums which called
Rebana Ubi. You can enjoy listening the sound while watching the traditional
show which called Wayang Kulit show. Wayang Kulit is a cultural
performances featuring traditional Malay music and Wayang Kulit. The wayang kulit or
shadow play, is a unique form of theatre inspired by the great Hindu epics, the
Ramayana and Mahabrata. The tok dalang character manipulates the puppets which
is made from buffalo hide and mounted on rattan sticks and modulates the
narrator voice to create drama and suspense. The show is usually being
held at night. Besides, Kelantan also have the giant
kites to intricate textiles, performance art and traditional games. Kelantan is
commonly associated with the traditional kite called the wau, made from a
bamboo frame and colored paper. While there are different types of wau in
Malaysia, the Wau Bulan or Moon-Kite is the most well-known and beautiful, with
its largest crescent framework and ornate design.
Okay now, let us
move to a
textile factory to see how local women work on two intricate textile art, the
songket and batik. Songket is a handwoven textile embroidered with gold or
silver threads, traditionally worn during formal ceremonies. Batik, on the other hand, uses a technique called wax-resist dyeing to
produce beautiful floral motifs on the fabric. Both of these traditional textiles
are only a part of Kelantan’s large cultural tapestry, and there are plenty
more local handicrafts, trades and traditions out there that have yet to be
highlighted as the state’s intangible attraction. You can happily shopping the Batik
designed clothes and gives to your loved ones. Variety of clothing you might
want to buy if you visit the shops such as attire for all ages from the pyjamas
until the exclusive Batik shirt used to attend many occasions.
Last but not least, Kelantan is the best place for you to explore. It was
an honoured for me to share of the iconic’s culture of state in Malaysia. Thank
